To help you understand the Customs procedure, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) in partnership with the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have developed this free one day seminar.

This seminar will enable you and your business to:

  • See the ‘BIG PICTURE’ review some of the legislative changes to date including changes to security requirements.
  • Raise your awareness of your legal obligations arising from these changes and discuss their potential impact on your business.
  • Obtain access to UKTI and Enterprise Europe Network support for your international activities.

The presentation from HMRC will look at the major systems and processes regarding importing and exporting and how the changes will affect them.

The morning presentation includes:

  • The key requirements of the import process, including your roles and responsibilities to aid compliance, with an introduction to:
  • Customs freight simplified procedures (CFSP)
  • The Customs computer, CHIEF
  • The 10 Euro Waiver (for duty imports under 10 Euros)
  • Simplified import VAT accounting (SIVA) and how it can help you with your deferment account
  • Electronic Licensing
  • e-BTI (European Binding Tariff Information Service)
  • The Single European Authorisation
  • A brief explanation of the National Export System
  • A look at plans for a one-stop shop for submitting information through a UK ‘Single Window’

The afternoon presentation includes:

  • Reform of the Customs Code and associated developments which looks at the security amendment to the existing Customs rules and introduces some key concepts such as:
  • The requirement to submit data in advance of importation and exportation from July 2009
  • The concept of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) which came into being in January 2008
  • A look at the EU’s Modernised Customs Code (published June 2008) which will replace existing Customs law over the next few years
